ACYLF Condemns Riyom Killings

From : Johnson Ogu

The Arewa Christian Youth Leadership Forum (ACYLF) has strongly condemned the recent killings of over 20 innocent villagers in Bindi village, Tahoss District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack, allegedly carried out by armed herders on July 16, 2025, highlights the worsening state of insecurity in rural communities. What's most troubling is that the massacre occurred barely 200 meters from a Nigerian military checkpoint, with no response or arrests made.

In a statement signed by the National President, Dunijir Gatama, ACYLF condemned the attack and demanded justice for the victims. The statement reads, "We commend the courage and leadership of the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, who boldly condemned the attack and demanded accountability... We call for an urgent and transparent investigation into the incident, especially regarding the reported inaction of military personnel stationed near the attack site. We demand immediate arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the attack, including any officers found complicit by omission or negligence."

The ACYLF urges the Federal Government to reform Nigeria's security architecture to ensure fairness, competence, and accountability in protecting all citizens. They encourage the Christian community in the North to remain united in promoting peace, justice, and mutual protection. With Plateau State experiencing recurring intercommunal violence, the ACYLF's statement emphasizes the need for justice and an end to the normalization of bloodshed.

ACYLF CONDEMNS THE KILLINGS IN RIYOM, PLATEAU STATE: CALLS FOR JUSTICE AND SECURITY REFORMS

The Arewa Christian Youth Leadership Forum (ACYLF) strongly condemns the barbaric and senseless killing of over 20 innocent villagers in Bindi (Jebu) village, Tahoss District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, which occurred on Tuesday, 16th July 2025.

This horrific attack, allegedly carried out by armed herders, has once again brought to light the worsening state of insecurity in our rural communities. What is most troubling is that the massacre happened barely 200 meters from a Nigerian military checkpoint, yet there was no response, no confrontation, and no arrest made during or after the incident.

This is not only a gross failure of security—it is a clear reflection of the erosion of public confidence in institutions mandated to protect lives and property.

We commend the courage and leadership of the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang , who boldly condemned the attack and demanded accountability. His swift response in standing with the victims and calling out the failure of the security apparatus is both timely and commendable. We also acknowledge the firm position of the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, who amplified the government’s concerns during national interviews on Channels Television and TVC News.

Their bold stance reflects the true heartbeat of the people and a government that refuses to remain silent in the face of evil.

As a forum committed to raising God-fearing and responsible youth leaders across Northern Nigeria, ACYLF:

1. Calls for an urgent and transparent investigation into the incident, especially regarding the reported inaction of military personnel stationed near the attack site.

2. Demands immediate arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the attack, including any officers found complicit by omission or negligence.

3. Urges the Federal Government to urgently reform Nigeria’s security architecture to reflect fairness, competence, and accountability in the protection of all citizens.

4. Encourages the Christian community in the North to remain prayerful, alert, and united in efforts to promote peace, justice, and mutual protection.

This attack is not just an isolated incident—it is part of a dangerous pattern that must be confronted with truth, courage, and resolve. We mourn the victims, stand with the families, and pray for healing across Plateau State.

Nigeria cannot afford to normalize such bloodshed. Justice must be served, and never again should silence follow such horror.

Signed:
Dunijir Gatama
