The Bauchi State Executive Council has approved the immediate procurement of 30 additional vehicles for the Yankari Transport Company, in a move aimed at revitalizing the state-owned transport provider and boosting internally generated revenue.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Titus Ketkuka, made the disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists shortly after the council meeting held at the Government House, Bauchi.
According to Prof. Ketkuka, the approved purchase includes 25 brand-new 18-seater buses and 5 saloon cars. He said the new vehicles will significantly expand the operational capacity of Yankari Transport Company, enabling it to serve more routes efficiently and provide safer, more reliable services to commuters across the state.
"This decision reflects the government's commitment to improving mobility, strengthening infrastructure, and enhancing service delivery to the people of Bauchi State," the commissioner stated.
He further explained that the investment is not only about improving transportation services but also part of a broader economic strategy.
"This investment is a strategic step towards ensuring financial sustainability and creating more job opportunities for our people. It will also boost the revenue base of the transport company and contribute to the overall economic growth of the state," Prof. Ketkuka added.
The procurement is part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s broader vision to modernize public infrastructure and reposition Yankari Transport Company as a viable and competitive public transport provider in the region.
In recent months, the state government has intensified efforts to reform key sectors of the economy through targeted investments, with transport infrastructure seen as a crucial driver of economic development and social mobility.
