Kaduna, The Arewa Youths Advocate for Peace and Unity Initiative issued a strongly worded press statement on Tuesday, condemning what it described as the political persecution of former Minister and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN. In a statement, signed by the organization’s National President, Sani Mohammed, was released in Kaduna and circulated to local media outlets.

In the opening paragraph, the Initiative expressed deep concern over the series of legal actions and investigations that have been launched against Malami since he left office. It argued that these moves appear driven by partisan motives rather than any genuine pursuit of justice.

“The Arewa Youths stand firm against any attempt to weaponise the legal system for political vendettas,” the statement read. “We view the treatment of Abubakar Malami as a test of our nation’s commitment to the rule of law and democratic principles.

The press release provided background on Malami’s tenure, highlighting his contributions to legal reform and anti‑corruption efforts. It suggested that the current charges are a reprisal for his outspoken stance on issues that affect the northern region.

Calling on the federal government and relevant judicial bodies, the Initiative urged an end to what it termed “selective prosecution.” It demanded that any allegations against Malami be handled transparently and in accordance with established legal procedures.

The Arewa Youths also warned that the persecution of public figures could have far‑reaching consequences for national unity. They warned that such actions risk eroding public trust in institutions and could fuel regional tensions if not addressed promptly.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the Initiative’s commitment to peace, unity, and the protection of democratic values, pledging continued advocacy until justice is seen to be truly impartial.
