Bauchi SDP Disowns Planned State Congress, Says Exercise Illegal

Bauchi, The Social Democratic Party, Bauchi State Chapter, has rejected a purported state congress being planned by unrecognized individuals in the state, describing the exercise as illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect. In a press release issued on Thursday by the Acting State Chairman, Nasiru Hussaini, the party warned members, security agencies, and the general public to disregard any invitation to the said congress, stressing that it was not sanctioned by the legitimate leadership of the party.

According to the statement, the only recognized national leadership of the SDP is under Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, who has already communicated the official dates for all party activities nationwide, including state congresses, to the Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC has duly acknowledged the schedule. The Bauchi Chapter maintained that the organizers of the planned congress are not known to the party and are acting in violation of the Electoral Act and the SDP Constitution 2022 as amended.

The party announced that the authentic ward, local government, and state congresses in Bauchi will hold from Monday, May 18, 2026 to Tuesday, May 19, 2026, as formally communicated to INEC. It cautioned that any member who participates in the illegal congress does so at his or her own risk. The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and due process in all party affairs.

_REJECTION OF PURPORTED ILLEGAL SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SDP) STATE CONGRESS IN BAUCHI

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bauchi State Chapter, wishes to draw the attention of party members, the media, security agencies, and the general public to a clandestine and illegal plot by certain individuals to organize a purported state congress.

For the avoidance of doubt and for the record, the party, under the legitimate National Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam (Makaman Tilde), has formally communicated the dates of all party activities across the country, including state congresses, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the same has been duly acknowledged.

In view of the above, we unequivocally state that this planned exercise is illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect whatsoever. The organizers are not recognized by the legal leadership of the SDP and are acting in direct violation of the Act (as amended) and the SDP Constitution (2022, as amended).

All loyal members of the Social Democratic Party in Bauchi State are hereby directed to disregard any invitation to this illegal congress. The authentic party leadership will conduct the recognized ward, local government, and state congresses from _Monday, 18th May, 2026 to Tuesday, 19th May, 2026_. This schedule has been formally communicated to, and duly acknowledged by, INEC. Any person participating in the illegal congress does so at his or her own risk.

As law-abiding citizens, we shall continue to respect and adhere strictly to the rule of law.
