Toro Farmers and Herders Smile as Toro Rep Member Flags Off Fertilizer Distribution, Cattle Vaccination
From: John Faith
Bauchi, The lawmaker representing Toro Federal Constituency, Hon. Ismail Haruna Dabo, has commenced the distribution of fertilizers and farm implements to farmers across the constituency under the Haske Farmers Care 2026 initiative. The intervention is aimed at easing the economic strain on farmers and boosting food production in the face of rising input costs and insecurity affecting rural communities.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Dabo said the initiative directly responds to the hardships farmers have endured in recent seasons. He noted that access to quality inputs remains a major barrier for smallholder farmers, and the Haske Farmers Care program is designed to bridge that gap, enhance productivity, and secure livelihoods. A total of 421 farmers drawn from various wards in Toro have already benefited from the first phase of the distribution.
In a parallel effort to support livestock owners, the lawmaker also flagged off a large-scale cattle vaccination campaign targeting 18,000 animals across the constituency. The exercise, which has been widely applauded by Fulani communities, seeks to curb the spread of livestock diseases, protect herders’ assets, and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists in the area.
Community leaders and beneficiaries described the dual intervention as timely and impactful. Many Fulani herders expressed gratitude, noting that this was the first time a comprehensive animal health outreach had reached their settlements. The gesture has left many in a celebratory mood, with elders commending Hon. Dabo for his inclusive approach to constituency development.
Hon. Dabo emphasized that Haske Farmers Care has become one of his flagship annual programs since assuming office. “This is a commitment I have sustained every year to support our hardworking farmers, raise agricultural output, and strengthen food security,” he said. “When our farmers are equipped, they produce more, earn better incomes, and our entire local economy grows.”
The lawmaker reaffirmed his dedication to transforming agriculture in Toro Federal Constituency, stressing that the sector remains the backbone of the local economy. He pledged continued investment in farmers and herders alike, adding that future phases of Haske Farmers Care 2026 will expand to reach more beneficiaries with inputs, training, and veterinary support to build resilience and prosperity across all communities.
