Wakili Birni: The Voice Bauchi South Is Waiting For

Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi was born on 23 March 1975. He is a Nigerian politician from Bauchi State whose journey in public service has been defined by consistency, accessibility, and results. From the grassroots to the green chamber, his story is one of a man who rose not by noise, but by service. For the people of Bauchi, his name has become synonymous with youth empowerment, women inclusion, and practical politics that touches real lives.

Between 2015 and 2019, he served as a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly. It was there he learned representation at close range — listening to ward concerns, defending local budgets, and pushing for policies that reached ordinary families. From 2019 to 2023, he took that same energy to the National Assembly as the member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency. Across two levels of government, the pattern was clear: he showed up for the people, and he delivered without making empty promises.

Since leaving the House of Representatives, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi has not gone quiet. He has continued to work in communities, and in doing so he has won the trust of the entire Bauchi South. Traditional rulers, youth groups, women cooperatives, and community leaders now see him as one of their own. That trust was not bought with billboards. It was earned through years of showing up when it mattered most, especially in difficult times.

During both his time in the State Assembly and the House of Representatives, he made it a duty to understand the priorities of young people and women — the most vulnerable in our society. He saw firsthand how unemployment and lack of empowerment opportunities were stashing dreams in drawers. He did not just speak about it in plenary. He acted. His offices became centers where young people could find skills training, and where women could find support to start small businesses and become independent.

The numbers tell the story. He has empowered thousands of young people and women to become self-sufficient. From vocational training to startup grants, from educational support to agricultural inputs, his interventions were deliberate and direct. He believed that if you lift a woman, you lift a home. If you equip a youth, you secure a community. That belief shaped every program he ran and continues to shape how people see him today.

It is on the strength of this record that, ahead of 2027, the echo is now loud across Bauchi South. In local governments beyond his federal constituency, voices are calling for him to contest for the Senate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The call is not coming from Abuja offices. It is coming from the wards, from the pulling units, from market women and motorcycle riders who say: "We need a senator who understands us and who will not forget us after election."

His emergence has already started sending waves across the Bauchi South Senatorial District. He is positioned in the conversation against the Allied People Movement’s Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Kauran Bauchi — the incumbent Governor of Bauchi State. It is a contest many are watching closely. Yet many believe that Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi will win convincingly because of his deep network around young people and his reputation for delivering with humility.

To consolidate this momentum, a major project titled "Wakilin Birni Local Government Ambassadors" will be launched. It will cover all 7 Local Governments of Bauchi South: Toro, Bauchi, Alkaleri, Kirfi, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro. The structure will go down to every ward and every pulling unit. This is not just politics. It is a mobilization movement aimed at expanding youth and women engagement at the very foundation of our democracy so that no voice is left out.

The target of the "Wakilin Birni" project is simple but powerful: each LGA, ward, and pulling unit will recruit ambassadors who will serve as the eyes, ears, and voice of the people. They will identify needs, share information, and ensure that government programs reach the last man. For women, it means more cooperatives and more access to empowerment. For youths, it means more skills, more jobs, and more inclusion in decision-making that affects their future.

At a time when people are tired of promises, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi offers proof. Proof of service in the State Assembly. Proof of representation in the House of Reps. Proof of empowerment in the streets of Bauchi South. The people are listening because they have seen him before, and they know what he stands for. With depth, clarity, and a network built on trust, he represents a new direction — one where leadership is measured not by titles, but by the number of lives lifted. The bone is set. The people are ready. 2027 will tell the rest of the story.
